Waiting more than five months to get therapy

Published Monday, August 1, 2022

The therapy system at Kaiser is absolutely abhorrent. I have waited more than five months to get therapy. For the first three of those months I was severely depressed to the point of having suicidal thoughts. When I would tell my doctors about those thoughts I would get a call asking if I was okay. These calls would make me feel even worse because it made therapy seem more hopeless. My feelings were discounted by my first therapist and when I finally got a therapy voucher, it was for online therapy. I had specifically asked for in-person therapy. Multiple professionals have tried to push group therapy onto all of my family members. Group therapy is not a replacement for one-on-one therapy. Kaiser then told me to contact Alma (an online provider of mental health counseling and support), which had no therapists available with Kaiser insurance. If I was still depressed I would be dead because of this company. If this issue is not resolved I will write a complaint.
