Struggling mother asked to wait seven weeks for appointment

Published Monday, September 5, 2022

During my six weeks postpartum visit, I was diagnosed with postpartum anxiety. While I was prescribed medication, I requested to speak with a psychiatrist as well. When the psychiatry department reached out to do the initial assessment, the only options I was given was either an appointment at the Kaiser Psychiatric center seven weeks later, or to go and find a psychiatrist on my own outside Kaiser. I definitely felt ignored and that my condition was not serious enough for them to prioritize my mental health. For a mother who was struggling with postpartum anxiety every day, being asked to wait seven more weeks was not helpful.
