In August, NUHW members won COVID-related concessions from two Orange County hospitals, used COVID-19 surveys to press for improvements at Petaluma Valley Hospital, helped pass a major mental health care reform bill, and pressed harder to expand COVID-19 testing for all healthcare workers throughout California. NUHW President Sal Rosselli makes case for more COVID-19 testing
In a Sacramento Bee op-ed, Sal called on state leaders to mandate regular COVID-19 testing for all healthcare workers at hospitals, correctional facilities and home health agencies as well as for all newly-admitted patients. Read more.
Fountain Valley members force hospitals to safely cohort COVID-19 patients
The Tenet Healthcare hospital took action after workers filed a complaint and held the first of two protests this summer. Read more.
Kindred Westminster agrees to monthly COVID-19 testing
Faced with a second public protest, the hospital agreed to several concessions, including hazard pay, better access to PPE and monthly COVID-19 testing for NUHW members. Read more.

A majority of members filled out COVID-19 surveys, formulated their top priorities and are now pressing management to enact them. Read more.
NUHW members help pass major mental health care reform bill
SB 855 would require insurers to cover all forms of mental health and substance use treatment that a patient’s doctor deems “medically necessary.” It still must be signed by Gov. Newsom to become law. Read more.
