Emeryville – On behalf of NUHW’s 15,000 members, we enthusiastically welcome today’s introduction of the Medicare for All Act of 2019 by Sen. Bernie Sanders.
Medicare for All is the most sensible solution to our nation’s broken health care system. This legislation will put an end to increasing costs, limited provider choices, soaring drug prices and surprise bills — and give everybody the peace of mind that comes with guaranteed care.
As the leading union representing private-sector psychologists, therapists and social workers, we applaud the legislation’s guarantee that everyone receive affordable, accessible mental health care. This bill will save lives by guaranteeing millions of Americans receive mental health treatment that is too often denied by their private insurers or too expensive for them to access.
The time is now for Washington — and California — to put politics aside and put patients first. That starts with rejecting patchwork, piecemeal health care reform schemes that fail to improve quality or contain costs and working together to build a Medicare for All system that provides health care everyone can count on wherever and whenever they need it.
