Video: NUHW 2018 Kaiser mental health forum
The National Union of Healthcare Workers held a mental health forum in Oakland to discuss Kaiser Permanente’s delays and denials of mental health care. Patients and their families shared their experiences of struggling to obtain care and the sometimes tragic outcomes that have resulted from Kaiser’s inadequate care; clinicians discussed the difficulties and frustrations of trying to care for their patients within too few staff and too little support from Kaiser; California State Senator Jim Beall discussed his bill that would enforce parity laws; and former Congressman Patrick J. Kennedy, founder and CEO of The Kennedy Forum, shared his experiences as a leading mental health care advocate and his efforts to hold health insurers accountable to patients and the public.
