UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland workers ratify contract
October 16th, 2017
Business office and clerical workers at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland voted 98 percent October 12 in favor of a contract that guarantees raises of at least 13 percent through 2020.
The agreement provides a retroactive 3 percent bonus, 3 percent raise this year, and 3 percent raises in 2018 and 2019, and a 1 percent raise in 2020. The contract also includes a defined benefit pension plan, an employer-paid health insurance option extended to part-time employees, protection against subcontracting, shift differentials, tuition reimbursement, and other improvements and benefits.
Children’s business office and clerical workers include office coordinators, schedulers, registration associates, development coordinators, accounting clerks, financial advisors, telecommunications operators, authorization representatives, clerks, secretaries, among other classifications.
The contract marks another milestone for NUHW at Children’s Oakland. Earlier this year, our 550-member service and technical unit at Children’s secured a strong second contract that provided significant wage increases and improved job security.
Union membership at the hospital has roughly doubled over the past year to more than 1,100 employees, including 340 administrative workers and more than 200 professionals such as pharmacists, therapists, and social workers. Bargaining is underway for our professional unit.
