Statement on violence in Palestine and Israel
With the tragic events continuing to unfold in Palestine and Israel, we cannot ignore the civilian deaths or the impact this conflict is having on so many NUHW members.
As healthcare workers committed to the well-being and dignity of all people, we are deeply saddened by the loss of lives, injuries, and the profound impact on the health and well-being of the people in the region.
Our union believes in peace, justice, and the right of all people to be free. These values allow us to unite as workers, who come from an incredible diversity of backgrounds and nations, including many who have come to our country fleeing conflict in their homelands. We are all interconnected, and our union includes people with history and family in Palestine and Israel. At NUHW, we believe in everyone’s inherent dignity, and we do not tolerate Islamophobia, anti-Semitism, racism or bigotry of any sort.
As the violence rages, let us stand united in expressing our support for diplomacy, humanitarian aid, and efforts that contribute to a lasting and just peace in the region. We urge U.S. policymakers to take measures to help de-escalate the violence to prevent the further loss of innocent life.
In times like these, solidarity becomes a powerful force for positive change. We encourage everyone to stay informed, engage in constructive conversations, and extend empathy to those affected by this crisis.
In Solidarity,
NUHW Executive Board
