Optical workers REJECT Kaiser’s illegal assistance to SEIU-UHW

NewsJanuary 21, 2013

Just like in the last election, Kaiser is working hand-in-glove with SEIU-UHW to try to keep us stuck in their favored union. And just like last time, they’re willing to break the law to do it.

Recently, Kaiser management presented an illegal “Last, Best & Final” offer to NUHW optical workers. Now SEIU-UHW is lying to Kaiser employees, telling us it’s been accepted.

Nothing could be farther from the truth. I’m an optician and a proud member of the NUHW Optical Bargaining Team. I can tell you firsthand that we unanimously rejected Kaiser’s illegal proposal and told management we refuse to accept the cuts that SEIU-UHW has already agreed to. We even put it in writing.

Our message to management is simple. We say NO to Kaiser’s illegal offer. We say NO to SEIU’s takeaway contract. We say NO to a union run by our employer.

This phony proposal from management is just part of Kaiser’s effort to do whatever it can to help SEIU-UHW win, just like in the last election. You have to wonder what SEIU-UHW promised to give away in return for Kaiser’s help this time.

As NUHW-CNA members, we believe that with Kaiser making $8.3 billion in profits since the beginning of 2009, there’s no reason to let Kaiser cut our benefits like SEIU-UHW has. Registered nurses in the our sister union won a Kaiser contract with NO concessions and 15% raises over three years. United with 18,000 Kaiser RNs in NUHW-CNA and organizing with 43,000 workers in the Service and Technical bargaining units, we know we can secure our future instead of throw it all away with SEIU-UHW.

Voting out SEIU-UHW and uniting in NUHW-CNA is the ONLY way Kaiser workers can secure our future, protect our contract standards and improve on them, just like the RNs have done.
