NUHW members win contract at Marin nursing home
NUHW members at the San Rafael Healthcare and Wellness Center reached a tentative agreement this month on a new three-year contract that will boost wages by 8 percent.
The contract includes a 3 percent raise starting Feb. 1, 2020 for workers who have been at the home for at least 120 days and 2.5 percent wage increases each of the next two years.
The contract also increases minimum hourly wages for jobs, with cooks, dietary aides, housekeepers, janitors and laundry aides getting bumped up to at least $15 per hour.
In addition to COVID bonuses ranging from $100 to $200 based on seniority, the new contract also requires the employer to establish a COVID-19 committee to discuss any concerns about the virus.
“This contract is an important victory for us,” nurse Krystalle Jayne Melencio said. “It has been a very difficult year, but securing these raises and bonuses will help our families and help our nursing home avoid losing more caregivers.”
