NUHW Executive Board sworn in for three-year term
NUHW’s new Executive Board was sworn in Saturday, March 13, and seated for the first meeting of the three-year term.
All 22 members were elected by their peers in their workplaces to serve on the board, which sets the union’s agenda and manages its finances.
Serving their first terms on the board are Mickey Fitzpatrick, Kaiser Integrated Behavioral Health Services (IBHS); Dewanda Benard, California Pacific Medical Center; Jody Forter, Kaiser Psych-Social; and Ken Musyoki, Cottonwood Health Care.
“It’s a big honor and a big responsibility to be elected by my colleagues to help lead our union,” Fitzpatrick said. “I’m excited to help advance our mission to empower workers, protect patients and advocate for a better health care system that treats everybody equally.”
NUHW President Sal Rosselli, who was re-elected to lead NUHW, opened the swearing-in ceremony before ceding the floor to re-elected Secretary–Treasurer Sophia Mendoza, who gave a brief presentation on NUHW’s progress since its founding in 2009.
Congresswoman Katie Porter, who gave the keynote address at NUHW’s 2019 Leadership Conference, swore in the new board via Zoom. Afterward, she sent Sal a text. It read “I [heart] NUHW.”
