Kaiser, Don't Deny
Patients need access to timely and consistent mental health services
Patient Stories
my daughter was diagnosed with learning disabilities and an autoimmune disorder
Published Thursday, March 21, 2019I brought my daughter to see a therapist after she was diagnosed with learning disabilities and an autoimmune disorder. I was shocked when the therapist who conducted the intake told me, “We don’t provide individual therapy. I can refer your daughter to a group, but we don’t have a group right now with children her age.” I sought individual treatment for her outside of Kaiser and paid out of pocket for weekly therapy. I am a clinical psychologist myself, and my newest referral in my private practice is a Kaiser patient who was told she could not receive mental health services because her case was not acute and she was not suicidal.
