Michigan technical workers vote 65 to 9 to join NUHW

Hackley Techs won our election to join NUHW!

I am so proud to report that today we voted to leave SEIU and join NUHW by 65 votes for NUHW to 9 votes for SEIU at the Hackley Campus of Mercy Health Partners in Muskegon, Michigan.

We are thrilled to be the second bargaining unit to join NUHW in Michigan! More than 90 technical workers at the Hackley Campus are joining nearly 80 of our sisters and brothers at Luther Manor in Saginaw, who voted to join NUHW last September.

After SEIU officials in Michigan bargained takeaway contracts, failed to represent us and paid themselves exorbitant salaries, perks and bonuses with our dues, we decided we wanted a union that we control at Hackley.

Our story isn’t the only NUHW success to report in the new year. Last week, NUHW dietary workers at Lakewood Regional Medical Center in Los Angeles unanimously ratified a three-year contract with their employer that makes progress on wages and benefits, including 10% in wage increases over three years and improvements in health insurance.

With NUHW’s strong track record of success in 2011, we are proud to join our brothers and sisters in NUHW making history in 2012 and going forward.

Sincerely,

Kim Vossekuil, CST, Mercy Health Partners, Hackley Campus
