Members at Novato nursing home settle three-year contract
NUHW members at Brius-owned Novato Healthcare Center ratified a three-year contract that includes a 3 percent raise retroactive to May 1 and 2.5 percent and 2.25 percent wage increases in the following two years.
The contract also lowers health insurance costs, increases minimum hourly rates, adds a night shift differential, and gives workers options for cashing out part of their vacation bank.
NUHW members also won the same COVID protections as their counterparts at Brius-owned San Rafael Healthcare and Wellness Center, who settled their contract in January. Brius will be required to establish a COVID-19 committee to discuss any concerns workers have about the virus.
“This contract is a hard-earned victory,” said Joey Chiong, a cook at the nursing home. “We negotiated week after week, and we won raises and lower health care costs without any takeaways. We’ve been through so much over the past year, and this contract puts us in a better position to take care of our families and win more at the bargaining table in the future.”
