Kevin de León speaks at Leadership Conference, wins NUHW endorsement
State Senator Kevin de León won NUHW’s endorsement for U.S. Senate after addressing our Leadership Conference for more than an hour Sunday, Sept. 23.
Ninety-one percent of NUHW elected stewards at the conference voted to endorse de León over Sen. Dianne Feinstein, who chose not to participate in the conference.
In answering questions from our members, de León reiterated his unequivocal support for a single-payer healthcare system that would insure all Californians. “Health care is health care,” he said. “And having the right to health care is a universal right. And if you believe in that you believe in Medicare For All. It’s just that simple.”
Following his endorsement, de León, issued the following statement:
“I am grateful to have the endorsement of the National Union of Healthcare Workers’ democratically elected healthcare leaders, who work tirelessly to keep Californians safe and sound. Healthcare is a human right, not an exclusive privilege for those who can afford it. With NUHW’s support, we’ll take the fight for Medicare For All to Washington and bring federal funding for mental health care back to California. We won’t take no for an answer.”
