I gave up and got therapy outside Kaiser to save my life

Published Saturday, July 30, 2022

I am bipolar and suffer from anxiety, depression, and many stressors, but I gave up and got therapy outside Kaiser to save my own life. Trying to get reimbursed by making a complaint and filing a claim with Kaiser did nothing, so now I’m filing a complaint with the DMHC (Department of Managed Healthcare). Kaiser wants to evaluate me now, after denying care for years; now that I am doing better thanks to therapy I’m paying for myself! And if they do approve care (unlikely) they will want to switch me to one of the Kaiser therapists who will see me once or twice and then drop me. I’m staying with my current therapist. My life is worth it. But what do people do who don’t have the resources to pay out of pocket?
