Harry Britt was appointed to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors by Mayor Dianne Feinstein in 1979 after the assassination of Harvey Milk. In his 14 years on the board, he ensured that the LGBTQ and progressive communities had a seat at the table in city politics. He introduced the nation’s first comprehensive domestic partner legislation, which had the unanimous support of the board and was signed by Mayor Art Agnos in 1989.
