2,000 Engineers Join Next Week’s Statewide Strike by Kaiser Caregivers
Participation by Stationary Engineers’ union brings number of Kaiser strikers to 23,000
OAKLAND – On Monday, the International Union of Operating Engineers, Stationary Engineers, Local 39 officially notified Kaiser Permanente of its intent to honor next week’s statewide strike by the National Union of Healthcare Workers (NUHW).
Together with the accompanying sympathy strike at Kaiser by the California Nurses Assocation, the total number of workers who will participate in the walk-out on September 22nd comes to 23,000.
“We’re honored to have thousands of members of the CNA and the Stationary Engineers standing in solidarity with our members next week,” said Sal Rosselli, President of NUHW. “NUHW members all over California are fed up with Kaiser’s refusal to bargain with our union in good faith, its failure to guarantee the staffing necessary for safe and timely access to care, and its insistence on implementing cuts to the benefits of NUHW caregivers that have no economic justification whatsoever.”
